About

Wondering People brings together a selection of artists and makers for this year’s London Craft Week, taking place at Sophie Breitmeyer’s new space, including Camille Biddell, Jay Harper, Ali Hewson, Charlotte Salt and Kate Cornelius. The exhibition title ‘Primavera’, meaning ‘spring’ in Italian and Spanish, is taken from the Botticelli Renaissance painting ‘La Primavera’.

Known as the modern-day family jeweller, Sophie Breitmeyer’s new space is a warm and welcoming retreat from the bustle of central London. Inspired by the best of traditional British design, award-winning interior designer Christian Bense has worked with Sophie to create a classic, sophisticated showcase for her fine jewellery. In keeping with Christian’s design, Sophie’s work is a fusion of modern and traditional craftsmanship, designed to transcend trends and be passed down through generations. This is embodied by her newly launched signature Ribbon Edit – a bold, colourful collection featuring an array of multi-cut and vibrant gemstones. Set against a tasteful mix of warm woods, stone, and textiles, the space forms the perfect backdrop for hand-selected fine art and Sophie’s timeless collections.

Created especially for this exhibition, the works on display reflect each artist’s response to ‘Primavera’, a meditation on renewal and colour. Kate Cornelius, for instance, draws directly from the palette and symbolism of the painting La Primavera, interpreting its vision of heaven meeting earth through a collection of hand-built ceramics that balance delicacy with grounded form. Across the exhibition, this dialogue between the ethereal and the tangible continues, echoed in Sophie Breitmeyer’s newly launched Ribbon Edit, where vibrant gemstones and fluid, ribbon-like forms evoke the movement, light and optimism of spring. Together, the works form a unified yet varied exploration of seasonal transformation, craftsmanship and enduring beauty.
